Canada
does not offer an official au pair program, however, au pairs can
legally work in the country under the
Live-In Caregiver
Program or

The Live-in Caregiver Program is a special program to bring workers to
Canada for live-in work as caregivers when there are not enough
Canadians to fill the available positions. A "live-in caregiver" is
someone who provides unsupervised care of children, the elderly or the
disabled in a private household.
Successful applicants receive an employment authorization allowing them
to work in Canada as live-in caregivers. After two years of employment,
program participants can apply in Canada to become permanent residents;
they may be granted permanent resident status provided they meet certain
requirements. Note: the two years of employment must be completed within
three years of the caregiver's arrival in Canada.
To work as a live-in caregiver in Canada, you must make an application
to the Live-In Caregiver Program. If your application is successful, you

- Experienced host
family is looking for an au pair to join them this autumn. Previous
au pairs have stayed 24 months and have been very happy. The au pair
duties will include driving the oldest daughter to school and back
and to after school clubs and activities. You will also be playing
games with the children. You will also check that they are not
watching too much television or playing for too long on the
computer. In addition to this the family expects you to keep the
house tidy on a daily basis - loading the dishwasher, putting away
laundry, making sure toys are not lying around and vacuuming where
necessary. You will need to prepare the children’s breakfast and
help the Mum with the preparation for the family meals. You need to
be able to drive (lessons provided at the start). Mum is at home and
will help you to get used to your routines. There is also a cleaner
lady but if you wish to earn more, you can do extra cleaning.
- We are having a baby
in October and will be looking for a live in nanny / aupair starting
in May or June of 2009. Duties will include taking care of the
infant when we are both at work, housekeeping, as well as light
cooking duties and grocery shopping.
- I am looking for a
live in nanny/caregiver. I have two children, ages 3 and 5 who need
the services of a nanny. I am very much interested in teaching my
children Tagalog and therefore wish to employ someone who is willing
to assist with this goal as part of their duties (i.e., by
communicated in the language with the kids).
We live in the toronto area.

Requirements:
- Completed secondary
education (High School Diploma) or equivalent of Canadian High
School. In some countries this may mean you need to have at least 2
years of post secondary education.
- Six months of
full-time training or 12 months of experience paid employment
in caring for children, elderly or disabled.
- Ability to speak read
and understand either English or French.
- Aupair/Nanny must
live in the employer's home
- Must have clean
criminal record check
- Must pay a fee for
processing of application. Contact the Canadian Consulate or Embassy
to find out about the fee. You will not get your money back, if visa
office refuses your application.
